Nothing needed. If tea staining appears in a coastal garden, wipe it with warm water and a soft cloth rather than a wire brush, which would scratch the passive layer.

304 stainless, so it never goes orange.

Interlocking one metre sections in three face heights. The one to choose next to pale paving.

Stainless is the range to pick when the edging sits against something you do not want stained.

Corten and bare steel both shed run off while they weather. 304 stainless does not weather at all, so pale paving, render, decking and light gravel stay the colour they were.

It comes in three face heights. 50 mm is a lawn edge, 100 mm is the general purpose depth, and 200 mm is for holding back a level change or a deep mulch bed.

At 0.5 mm gauge it is the most flexible metal edging we sell, which makes it the easiest of the three to run around a tight circle.

Sections are one metre and interlock. Three 100 mm spikes come with every metre.

Stainless Steel Garden Edging (per metre), 50 mm

The argument for stainless over corten or black steel is almost entirely about what is next to the edging.

Stainless Steel Garden Edging (per metre), 50 mm

Weathering steel is supposed to shed a little rust while its patina forms, and black coated steel will do the same wherever the coating gets chipped. Neither matters against grass or dark gravel. Both matter a great deal against limestone paving, a rendered wall or new decking.

Stainless Steel Garden Edging (per metre), 50 mm

304 is the standard austenitic stainless grade, the same specification used for kitchen worktops and outdoor handrails. It does not need a coating because the chromium in the alloy forms its own passive layer.

Stainless Steel Garden Edging (per metre), 50 mm

The trade off is stiffness. At 0.5 mm this is a third of the thickness of the corten range, so it bends more easily, which is good for curves and less good for holding a long straight run dead true. On a straight run, space the spikes evenly rather than clustering them.

Stainless Steel Garden Edging (per metre), 50 mm

Choose the face height by what the edging is holding rather than by how it looks: 50 mm to stop a mower, 100 mm to stop grass runners, 200 mm to retain a change of level.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which face height should I choose?

50 mm to stop a mower running into a bed, 100 mm for general use and to stop grass runners, 200 mm to hold back a change of level or a deep mulch bed.

What grade of stainless is it?

304, the standard austenitic grade also used for kitchen worktops and outdoor handrails.

Will it rust?

No. The chromium in the alloy forms its own passive layer, so there is no coating to chip and nothing to go orange.

Will it stain my paving?

No, which is the main reason to choose it over corten or black steel next to limestone, render or new decking.

How thick is it?

0.5 mm.

Is it strong enough at 0.5 mm?

For edging, yes. It is a third of the thickness of the corten range, which makes it more flexible and slightly less willing to hold a long straight run dead true. Space the spikes evenly on a straight and it is fine.

How long is each section?

One metre, and the sections interlock into a continuous length.

How many spikes come with it?

Three 100 mm steel spikes per metre.

Can it take a tight curve?

Yes. At 0.5 mm it is the easiest metal edging here to run around a small circle such as a tree ring.

How do I cut it?

A hacksaw. Wear gloves: a freshly cut stainless edge is sharp.

Do you cut it to my length?

No. It ships as whole one metre sections and you cut if you need a shorter run.

Will it discolour by the sea?

Coastal air can leave light surface tea staining on 304. Wipe it with warm water and a soft cloth, never a wire brush, which would damage the passive layer.

Does the price change with the height?

Yes. Each face height is priced separately because it is a different amount of steel.

Can I mix heights in one order?

Yes. Add each height you want as its own line.

Is it visible once installed?

Barely. At 0.5 mm the top edge reads as a thin bright line, which is why it suits modern planting schemes.

What is it best used for?

Paver and path edges, beds sitting against pale paving, and holding a level change where the 200 mm height is used.

Does it need any maintenance?

No.

How does it compare with the black steel?

The black steel is 1.5 mm and coated, so it is stiffer and disappears visually; the stainless is thinner, more flexible and will never mark what is next to it.

How much is delivery?

Delivery anywhere in the United Kingdom is GBP 25, and it is free once your order reaches GBP 100. There is one delivery service rather than a choice of speeds.

How long does delivery take?

Five to seven days, after a 24 to 48 hour handling time while the order is picked and packed.

Do you deliver across the whole UK?

Yes, anywhere in the United Kingdom, including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Is there a minimum order?

No. The per metre and per section ranges are sold by the unit, so you can order one metre or one section if that is all you need.

Can I change my mind after it arrives?

Yes. As a consumer buying online in the UK you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. Email us with your order number, then you have a further 14 days to send the goods back. Nothing we sell is made to your measurement, so that right applies to everything on this site.

What if the item is faulty or not what was described?

That is a separate and stronger right under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and it runs for six years in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and five years in Scotland. You can ask for a repair, a replacement or a refund, and we pay the return postage.

Who pays return postage if I simply change my mind?

You do, unless the item is faulty or we sent the wrong thing.

Can I cancel before it ships?

Yes. Contact us with your order number as soon as you can. Most orders are picked within 24 hours, so the sooner the better.

How do I track my order?

You get a confirmation email with a tracking number once the order ships. Items in one order can travel in separate parcels.

What payment methods do you take?

Card payment and PayPal, both through a secure checkout. Card details are handled by the payment provider and never reach this site.

What currency are prices in?

Pounds sterling, GBP, and that is what your card is charged.

Do you sell to trade or in bulk?

Yes. Use the wholesale quote page with the lengths and quantities you need and we will come back with a price.
