If you are installing steel edging, wear gloves. A cut 0.5 mm stainless section has an edge on it.
These are 100% cowhide at 1.2 mm, which is thick enough to be genuinely cut and puncture resistant and still soft enough to pick up a spike.
The palm is reinforced with a second patch, which is where a garden glove wears through first.
The wrist is elastic, so soil, bark and gravel stay out of the glove rather than collecting in it.

Most gardening gloves are a coated knit, and for weeding that is the right tool. For anything involving metal edging it is not.
Leather at 1.2 mm gives you a real barrier against a cut edge and against a spike going through the palm, which is the actual injury risk when you are driving 100 mm spikes with a mallet.
