The simplest landscape borders effectively separate your lawn from a garden, in rusted weathered steel, stainless steel or plastic. The weathered steel rusted metal lawn edging bends easily into smooth, graceful curves and stops the spread of grass roots. The stainless steel and black recycled plastic edging offer the sleekest, most refined garden edging look.
Best landscape edging
Lawn edging products can make landscaping and maintaining your lawn an easier process. Grasses can be aggressive plants. They like their space and they do not want any other plant in it, unless of course that other plant is a dandelion or clover with a strong will and a fast growing root structure.
Edging your lawn will not keep it weed free, and you will still need natural or chemical treatments for that. What it does is create a barrier between your grass and the other plants in your garden, so the two stop competing at the boundary.
Which material suits which job
- Recycled plastic, 50 mm. The cheapest clean line, bends by hand, three spiral spikes per metre included. Best for lawn edges and bed borders.
- Stainless steel, 0.5 mm, three face heights. Never rusts and never stains what is next to it, so it is the one to use against pale paving. The 200 mm height holds back a change of level.
- Corten weathering steel, 1.5 mm. Supplied already rusted. The stiffest edging here, and the one specified for how it looks against planting.
- Black powder coated steel, 1.5 mm. The same stiffness as corten with a coating that keeps it black instead of orange.
- Decorative stone effect border, per 24 cm section. A low moulded kerb for a bed you want to see rather than one you want to disappear.
